Maps for Disaster
These maps imagine the aftermath of a massive earthquake along the Cascadia fault line in the American Pacific Northwest.
βAn earthquake with a magnitude of at least 6.0 would devastate local infrastructure and strand millions. Recent catastrophic weather events have shown just how easily Western coastal cities can become cut off from supply chains and neighboring communities. In a disaster situation of this scale, resources would be stretched thin, and efficient and economical methods of cataloging and dispersing information to the public would be necessary.β
The maps are designed to be simple for local governments to produce and customize to their community needs and impacts. They convey physical changes in the landscape, like soil liquefaction, as well as available resources. As each region may have different needs and priorities, each map is tailored to reflect the community it represents.
